Agenda Milano

Milan always has a very extensive agenda, you can look at the websites below what's up.
Vivi Milano
Milano Mentelocale

This blog gives a nice overview of things to do in Milan. Also a lot of free events. It is written in Italian though.
Eventi Milano

Excelsior

This very luxurious department store gave a lot of thought about their interior and how to present their products. It's worth a visit just to look. It's located just off Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.

Galleria del Corso, 4

Osteria al Coniglio Bianco

For 'ossobuco con risotto allo zafferano', a plate that comes from Milano, you can eat at this place. The ossobuco is cooked perfectly and the risotto is made with real saffron and has exactly the right amount of 'al dente'.

Via Alzaia Naviglio Grande 12

Trattoria Pane al Pane, Vino al Vino

Try the 'orecchie di zucca', they are the best I've ever tasted. Also the 'gnocco fritto' is recommended, it's a very light kind of bread (mostly air), you can eat it as a starter with things like prosciutto or gorgonzola.

Via Tadino 48

Vinile

This bar has a very pleasant atmosphere, they have all vintage stuff related to music everywhere, books and different chairs. The prices are a little higher then normal but in return they serve artisanal Italian beer, good wine and a couple of cocktails like Spritz.

Via Tadino 17

Mas!

You can have a very good 'aperitivo' here. You order one drink, for the first you always pay 9 euros for the aperitivo. Then you can take as much as you like from the buffet to eat. The food is good and the drinks are as well. I would recommend the Sangria, it is home made. The place is quite big and in the back they have some couches.

Spotted by Locals

On this website locals recommend their favourite places and indeed they are often worth the trouble of visiting.

MAG Café cocktail bar

This place is nice and laid back with jazz music and very interesting cocktails. You can also ask for adaptations. If you don't like cocktails or aren't in the mood, you can have the normal things too; coffee, wine, beer etc. The staff is very nice and they like working there (or so it seems). It is even possible to recharge your phone (they have a box with adapters).

Ripa di Porta Ticinese 43

Kazan: All you can eat sushi

For the reasonable price of € 18,80 per person you can order whatever you like of the (quite extensive) menu. If you don't particularly like sushi, they also have meat things and rice for example. The sushi is good and the atmosphere is agreable. The staff however could be nicer. But all in all a good place to have sushi.

Website

Corso di Porta Ticinese 70

Ticinese (area)

This is a nice area to shop, walk around, drink something. It's around Corso di Porta Ticinese.

Mercato dell'antiquariato

Every last sunday of the month there is an antique market at Navigli. You won't find a lot of junk here, the sellers really sell antiquities and vintage stuff.

Website

Public transport: ATM

If you want to use the bus, tram or metro you should first buy a ticket. You can't buy one in the bus, tram or metro. There are several tickets, you can check them here.
To plan your journey you can fill in the addresses here and it tells you what to do.
If you're staying for a longer period in Milan, you can get a subscription with a card to travel. For this service you require a 'codice fiscale' (which you can get at one of the 'Agenzia delle Entrate", often you need this code as well for other contracts).

Osteria del Corso

People are actually lining up to eat at this place (at least for lunch when I tried it). The food is really tasty and the prices are kind to your wallet.

Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi 75

Luini Panzerotti

If you care for an afternoon snack you should try a 'panzerotto'. It is a sort of small calzone pizza which is fried. It originated in Puglia. You can have good ones at this place, it's near the Duomo. They are known for their panzerotti, and indeed they are delicious.

Via S. Radegonda 16

Wasabi - aperitivo with sushi

You can have aperitivo here from 18:00-21:00 for € 15,00 (for the first drink plus buffet). The price is higher than in other bars because they serve sushi among other japanese or 'fushion' food. Try a different cocktail with wasabi or sake, they are nice.
It is also possible to order of the menu.

They have 2 restaurants:

Via Solferino 27
Via Ponte Vetero 14

Clubs clubs clubs

There are a lot of clubs in Milan, ranging from exclusive to cheap.
The area where a lot of them are is in Corso Como.
Then there're Maggazini Generali and Alcatraz, two nice clubs where the snobby crowd doesn't come.

Cocktail experience at Nottingham Forest

Drinking a cocktail here is never boring. The cocktails are experiments to give you a whole experience. They are served in unexpected and creative ways. For example; a cocktail where you first have to eat some sprouts, then let a capsule melt in your mouth with a very intense sensation, and then drink the cocktail. Good luck with the menu, in English it is extensive.. in Italian it is even twice as thick. Normal cocktail are also served in the way they were meant to be. Come early because it's always full.

Viale Piave 1

Bar Cuore

This is a nice place to go out if you like a more alternative crowd. The staff is sympatethic and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Via Gian Giacomo Mora 3

Turné Night Bar

This is a nice bar to go for a drink. The atmosphere is good, people of all ages come here and the prices are low for Milan. The staff is very nice and you feel taken care of to have a good night.

Tuesday you can have all kinds of "spritz" for € 3,50
Wednesday is happy hour all night long: medium beer and cocktails for € 5
Thursday wine tasting; 4 wines of your choosing and a platter with cheese and prosciutto for € 15 (they prefer you to call in advance for this)
On Sundays they play movies.

Via Paolo Frisi 3

Eataly

It is a retail chain that wants to unite gastronomy, culture and sale and does so in the philosophy of the slow food movement. You can eat authentic and of quality here and have good wines, which you can buy later by in the shop. It closes at 8 p.m. so it's more for lunch.

You can find Eataly in the basement of Coin (warehouse). They have stores in other cities as well.

Piazza 5 Giornate 1/A

Goganga

It's a bit an alternative place with a relaxed atmosphere and different people. Ages range from 20-35 and the fun starts around 1:00 a.m. Cocktails are large but a bit pricey: 8-10 euros (which is normal for Milan though).
The location is somewhat outside the centre but you can reach t easily with bus 90/91 (the circolare), which runs all night long.

Via Cadolini 39

MO Comfort Food Café

Sometimes you just like a quiet place to relax, work or study a little and drink a nice cappuccino. This is a place that can fulfill those needs. It only misses some lounge chairs and lunch hour is very busy. But you can find comfort food here with an organic touch, the coffee and cappuccini are nice and the food is tasty. The staff is nice and the prices are very normal and all this makes it a sympathetic place to go.

They have 2 cafés in Milano, one is next to Coin on Piazzale Loreto, the other one is on Piazza Corvetto in the UPIM store.

Chinatown

The Milanese Chinatown is nothing compared to for example the New York one, it shouldn't be allowed to have this name even but in Milan this zone around Via Paolo Sarpi is called Chinatown. There're a lot of Chinese shops and restaurants and Chinese people in general.

Signorvino

A wine bar/shop/restaurant right next to the Duomo but with normal prices seems to good to be true, but then again, here it is! It is on the first floor and you have a view on the Duomo and the people that walk past it. The place is decorated very cosy but stylish and is full of wine bottles. You can buy a bottle of wine to drink on the spot or take home, the price remains the same. There are also wines by the glass and treat yourself on a prosecco with pieces of strawberries.
At 'happy hour' you get some bites with your wine as well.

Setai Colonial

This place was taken over and has a new owner now who is very friendly. Go here for a nice aperitivo. The place has a modern styling and is quite big.

Arnold Coffee

If you're looking for a copy of Starbucks this café will do. The quality is okay, but you can't compare it to the coffee in a normal Italian caffeteria. It all comes straight from the machine, also the milk foam, and the coffee with tastes is too sweet. It is also overpriced.
But the reason it is on this page is because you'll have a hard time finding a place where you can install yourself with your computer and work in comfortable chairs with music in the background all day long taking something to drink every 2,5 hours.

Mercato Via Fauche

ATMosfera

This is really a 'restaurant' in an antique tram that rides through Milan for 2 hours while you're eating. You can reserve a table 75 days in advance and the price is 65 euros per person regardless of the chosen menu.
More information on the website.

Blender Bar

This place is very popular for aperitivo. If you look at the food you understand why. You can have a full dinner here and it's good food. Aperitivo is € 9. Unfortunately the drinks are not so great and the staff is not so nice. Reserving a table is recommended.

Piazzale Susa 7

Ba-Ba Reeba

A very attractive Spanish restaurant where you can have the tipical Spanish dishes. The paëlla you have to eat in 2 persons and if you already know which one you want it's better to announce this when making the reservation as it takes at least half an hour to prepare (you can have a look at the menu on the website). They are delicious and the paëlla Arroz negro is very good, though if you want to remain charming the whole evening it's better not to take it 'cause it'll turn your teeth black.

Mercato Ittico?

Hora Feliz

For a quite extended and good aperitivo you can go here. The wine is not so good but cocktails are just fine. For a fixed price of 9 euros you'll find tasty food; they even have things like seafood salad. Also the happy hour is until quite late, when the other bars already cleaned up.

Via San Vito 5A

Blue Note

This jazz bar is pretty known in Milan. Some very big names have performed here and still do. The setting is a stage with tables and chairs on 3 different levels so you almost always have a nice view. In the meantime you probably share a table with others and it feels very sociably. Also the snobs come here but just don't mind them and enjoy the music and have a good glass of wine or liqueur.

Check the website for the programmed artists and to buy tickets.

THE BLACKLIST

Places I strongly recommend to avoid:

Le Banque discoteca - very bad experience, songs on repeat
The Globe - nice idea on the 8th floor of Coin but very expensive aperitivo while the quality is low. All very pretentious.

Zara

Even if you don't like Zara, have a look at the one in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 11. They made a spectacular entrance with mosaic and screens.
